Monroe County Monitors Tropical Storm Erika

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Along with the rest of South Florida, Monroe County officials are preparing for the possible impacts of Tropical Storm Erika.

According to the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management, as of 2 p.m., Tropical Storm Erika was 900 miles east-southeast of Key Largo.

The department said while they do not plan to evacuate in the case of a tropical storm, they continue to monitor the storm.

Officials said protective actions have not yet been implemented and will be announced later Friday evening, if necessary.

South Florida residents are urged to stay informed.
