MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) - A money courier was robbed and then shot outside a shopping center in Miramar.

It happened along South Flamingo Road near Miramar Parkway Wednesday night.

Police believe someone was watching the money courier and then approached him.

Investigators said the courier, now identified as 37-year-old Taurean Lewis Burney, gave up the cash and then was shot multiple times.

"He turned over the money yet he was shot multiple times," said Miramar Police officer Taina Rues.

Burney was airlifted to a local hospital but he is expected to survive.

"The victim was airlifted to Memorial Regional Hospital and miraculously enough, he's in stable condition and he's expected to survive," said Rues.

Burney is known to pick up money from "The Licking" restaurants in South Florida. It's a popular chain co-founded by DJ Khalid.

Police believe the shooter took off in a four-door sedan, believed to be a Nissan. Detectives said there were two other people in the car.

A manager of the "The Licking" wouldn't give any comment to CBS4.

Investigators are asking for tips through Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
