MIAMI (CBSMiami) --It was a scary afternoon for a family in southwest Miami-Dade.

A mother was returning home from school pick up when she found her house on fire.

Miami-Dade Fire officials said a neighbor called in the fire around 2:15 p.m. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames at the home located at SW 134th Avenue and 66th Street. They sent out nine pieces of equipment to battle the blaze.

The family thought something had happened to their dog Buddy inside the home but officials said they found out their pet had bolted out of the house during the blaze. They later found Buddy in the yard.

"When we got here the house was on fire and I didn't know where Buddy was. I was like where is Buddy and they told me that he ran out," said the owner's daughter Barbara Santiesbevan.

Chopper 4 was over the scene where a gaping hole could be seen on the roof of the home.

No one was injured in the fire but the cause still remains under investigation.
