MLB Legend Jim Fregosi Passes Away At 71
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Long-time Major League Baseball manager and player Jim Fregosi died at a Miami hospital Friday after suffering multiple strokes last weekend.
Fregosi was on a MLB alumni cruise when he suffered the strokes. He was initially stabilized in the Cayman Islands before being brought to Miami. His family made the decision to pull him off life support and he passed away at 2:30 Friday morning surrounded by his family.
Fregosi was originally a player picked by the Los Angeles Angels in 1960. He went on to play in six All-Star games as a shortstop while playing 18 years for the Angels, Mets, Rangers, and Pirates.
After his playing career ended, he went on to become a manager of the Angels, White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, and Toronto Blue Jays. He won an NL Pennant with the Phillies in 1993 and an AL West title in 1979 before finishing with a 1028-1094 record.
