TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) - People were working for minimum wage in Florida will get a bump in the new year.

On January 1st, 2015 it's scheduled to go to $8.05 an hour. The new minimum wage for tipped employees will go up to $5.03 an hour.

The 12-cent increase is the result of a 2004 constitutional amendment which requires the wage to be readjusted each year based on the rate of inflation.

The state's minimum wage has gone up nearly $3 since voters approved the amendment.
