Miami police officer accused of firing gun during domestic dispute bonds out of jail

A 27-year-old Miami police officer has bonded out of jail after she was arrested over the weekend for allegedly firing her weapon during a domestic dispute with her boyfriend at their home.

Officer Sthephany Canizares was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and discharging a firearm in a residential area, according to Miami-Dade jail records.

On Monday, Canizares appeared in bond court, while her boyfriend, who is also a police officer, appeared via Zoom. The two share a 5-month-old child, CBS News Miami has learned.

Canizares' boyfriend told the judge that he was never in fear for his life during the incident.

The judge found no probable cause for the aggravated assault charge and set bond at $500 for the charge of discharging a firearm outdoors.

In a statement, Miami police confirmed that Canizares has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
