Byrd, who told police he used to attend Flanagan High, was reportedly carrying a 9mm gun with 11 bullets.

Authorities said they do not know why Byrd was at the school or what he may have intended to do there.

Byrd remains in jail Thursday night.

His arrest comes a day after Ke'Mard Jacques' arrest at Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

Officials at the school had been alerted to the existence of a possible gun, prompting police to conduct a search.

Police said a 9mm Beretta loaded with 15 rounds was found in Jacques' backpack.

Detectives said the handgun was stolen.

Jaques is charged with one count of possession of a weapon on school property and one count of grand theft of a firearm.

Miami-Dade Public Schools released this statement, which read:

"M-DCPS has systems in place to ensure potential threats to the safety and security of our students and staff are handled swiftly. This is a great example of how the quick-thinking actions of alert individuals can avert possibly tragic situations."
