Miami House Fire Prompts Various Investigations

MIAMI (CBSMiami) --  A fire inside a Miami home has prompted a number of investigations.

The fire broke out at a home located at 5313 NE 1st Avenue on Monday.

Aside from the fire, Child Protective services is also investigating an incident that reportedly happened the day before in the same spot. Investigators are wondering if they may be connected.

On Sunday, Miami Police responded to reports of child abuse and battery.  Officers said a man beat his two stepchildren with a brick. The two children are 8 and 9-years old. One of them has autism, police said. Their condition is unknown at this time.

At last check, the stepfather of the children was not in custody.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is helping the City of Miami Fire Department in the investigation into the cause of the blaze.
