MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Heat organization is giving thanks to the South Florida community by giving back to those who need it most.

The Heat hosted the 25th annual Miami Heat Thanksgiving Celebration on Wednesday, a little more than a week before the actual holiday.

The event took place at the Miami Rescue Mission located at 2020 NW 1st Avenue.

The entire Miami Heat team, along with coaches and staffers were there along with several sponsors which included Florida Blue, Goya Foods, Pepsi and FOX Sports Sun.

A select group of approximately 600 underprivileged families received a complete Thanksgiving meal, complete with all the trimmings, from the Heat.

The majority of those families were pre-selected by different government and community-based organizations and agencies.

Families from Overtown, Wynsood, Little Havana, Little Haiti, Liberty City, Cutler Bay and Lauderhill are all part of the group.

Members of the United States Armed Forces were also on hand to provide assistance and help distribute the meals and work the activity stations.
