Miami Heat Coach Leads Cyclists In Safety Event

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra hosted a free cycle safety event Saturday morning to promote cooperation between cyclists, drivers and pedestrians.

Spoelstra led a contingent of cyclists on a four-mile leisurely bicycle ride along Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami.

The event was not a race, but instead it was a recreational activity.

"Whether driving, walking or cycling, South Florida roadways belong to us all," said Spoelstra in a press release. "This event is a fun and relaxing way to encourage everyone to share the road and to do so in ways that are safe and smart."

Registrants received a free Heat Cycle for Safety gift bag and the first 500 people that registered got a limited edition Heat Youth Bicycle helmet.
