Miami Gardens Man Accused Of Child Abuse After Boy Wet The Bed

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) - A Miami Gardens man was given a $10,000 bond after being accused of burning his girlfriend s four year old son over the weekend.

23-year-old Khalil Jabali denies he scalded the child.

Prosecutors say Jabali was watching the four-year-old and his girlfriend's other children while she was working.

He phoned his girlfriend to say the child had accidentally poured a bowl of hot water over himself.

Jabali told investigators the child wet the bed and he had boiled water in a microwave to clean the sheets.

He said he left the child alone to check on another child and found the boy on the floor of the bathroom moaning and his 'skin peeling off.'

He said when he called his girlfriend to explain what happened she told him to put Vaseline on the burns.

The couple ended up taking the child to Jackson North and he was transferred to Ryder Trauma Center.

In court, Miami-Dade Assistant State Attorney Justin Funck told a judge that child was in grave condition.

"He had bleeding around his brain and broken ribs. They don't know if he's gonna survive and if he does, he will likely be in a vegetative state," said Funck.

When he is released on bond, the judge told Jabali he has 48 hours to claim his belongings from his girlfriend's home and is forbidden to have contact with the four-year-old.
