Miami Firm Wants Feds To Return Vintage Yankees Ball Caps

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — A shipment of New York Yankees ball caps are at the center of a custody battle of sorts between U.S. Customs and Border Protection and a Miami cap company.

The 20-year caps were seized last August by customs agents who said they were counterfeit.

But American Cap Exchange of Miami said the 3,200 Yankee caps are not counterfeit but vintage, never-worn caps that were legally purchased from a German company.

A lawsuit filed last week in Miami federal court says American Cap petitioned the department for return of the headwear, but that was denied in March.

The lawsuit asks a judge to order return of the Yankee caps, noting that the company has suffered financial hardship because of their loss.
