MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — The official artist for the Grammy Awards has been named and he's from Miami.

Laurence Gartel, a digital artist, is working on a life-sized version of the iconic statuette, which he's wrapping in his psychedelic imagery using vinyl, glitter and prismatic materials. The piece will be used to create the official artwork for the program, tickets and other promotional materials for next month's award show.

Gartel was greatly influenced by the punk rock scene as a kid growing up in New York. He worked alongside musicians Stiv Bators, Sid Vicious and the Ramones. His groundbreaking work has been exhibited around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

He's spent the last several years creating art cars, including one that was recently featured during Art Basel Miami Beach.
