MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Miami-Dade police officer has been charged after he reportedly took part in a fraud scheme.

Rafael Durn appeared in magistrate court on Thursday. Federal prosecutors claim he provided people with false police reports claiming they had been the victim of identity theft. Those people would then use the phony reports to fix their damaged credit reports.

Duran is charged with wire fraud and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
