MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The 64th annual Miami-Dade County Youth Fair is in full swing at Tamiami Park, and it's beginning to look more and more like it could stay there another 64 years.

Voters last year approved a referendum that would allow FIU to expand its campus on to the fairgrounds, providing it could find a suitable place to relocate the fair. But the fair insists there is no county land that would be suitable.

"We believe that we are going to be in Tamiami Park with our youth fair and exposition business for many many years to come," said Youth Fair President Bob Hohenstein.

The Fair's president and FIU's President Mark Rosenberg met separately with Mayor Carlos Gimenez Monday. The school's boss is upbeat.

"My hope is we see forward progress on addressing the mandate that we received from the voters of Dade County," said Rosenberg.

Rosenberg said a number of possible sites for relocating the Fair were discussed, but he did not name any of them.

It's believed no site has been suggested yet that would be agreeable to the fair, which has an ironclad lease with the county on its current location.
