Miami-Dade Firefighters work to extinguish apartment fire in Fontainebleau

Fire crews in Miami-Dade raced to extinguish a blaze that broke out inside an apartment building in Fontainebleau early Wednesday morning, according to officials.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told CBS News Miami that more than 15 units responded to reports of the fire, which broke out near the 9600 block of Fontainebleau Boulevard just before 4:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire officials said that, upon arrival, crews noticed heavy smoke coming from a fifth-floor apartment, and firefighters immediately entered the building.

Those crews were able to locate the impacted apartment and got to work extinguishing the fire.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said that due to the need for additional resources, the response was upgraded to a second alarm. Crews were then able to get the fire under control to prevent further extension and the building was evacuated.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross was also requested to the scene to help those who were displaced.
