Miami-Dade County Shelters Now Open

MIAMI (CBSMiami) –  Miami-Dade County opened shelters Wednesday afternoon following an order issued for voluntary evacuations of mobile home parks ahead of Hurricane Matthew.

Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez issued an order for mobile home residents just before 5 p.m. The order was issued out of an abundance of caution, said the mayor.

Miami-Dade County remains under Tropical Storm Warning meaning tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 36 hours but that may change if depending on the hurricane's trajectory.

For Miami-Dade residents planning on going to a shelter, the following locations are open:

  1200 NW 6 Ave.
  City of Miami, 33136

• Robert Morgan Senior
  18180 SW 122 Avenue
  Miami, 33177

The shelters listed above do not allow pets. Pet owners may take their pets to the following pet-friendly shelter:

• Darwin Fuchs Pavilion
  10901 SW 24th St.
  Miami, FL 33165
