Miami Dade College President To Receive Presidential Medal Of Freedom

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The president of Miami Dade College has been tapped to receive the nation's highest honor.

Next week Dr. Eduardo Padron will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The White House called Padron a national voice for access and inclusion. They add that he has worked to ensure all students have access to high quality, affordable education and championed innovative teaching and learning strategies.

"The Presidential Medal of Freedom is not just our nation's highest civilian honor - it's a tribute to the idea that all of us, no matter where we come from, have the opportunity to change this country for the better," said President Barack Obama in a statement.

Padron will be in good company at the ceremony on November 22nd.

Among the 21 people receiving the honor are Bill and Melinda Gates, Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Bruce Springsteen, Ellen DeGeneres and Michael Jordan.
