Miami Dade College President Gets Prestigious Medal Of Freedom

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami Dade College's president is getting the very prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom.
President Barack Obama will present the medal to Dr. Eduardo Padron during a ceremony at the White House on November 22nd.
Padron is one of 20 others being honored with the the nation's highest civilian honor.
This year's medal recipients have some major names in various industries like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ellen DeGeneres, Bill and Melinda Gates and Diana Ross, among others.
The Medal of Freedom is presented to people who have made major contributions to the security and national interests of the United States, world peace and cultural and public endeavors.
"The Presidential Medal of Freedom is not just our nation's highest civilian honor - it's a tribute to the idea that all of us, no matter where we come from, have the opportunity to change this country for the better. From scientists, philanthropists, and public servants to activists, athletes, and artists, these 21 individuals have helped push America forward, inspiring millions of people around the world along the way," said President Obama.
