MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The City of Miami is hoping to clean up its streets and keep them that way.

To do so, they've kicked off a new campaign "Keep Miami Beautiful" intended to crack down on people who dump garbage and refuse illegally. To help put a stop to this, they plan to install surveillance cameras around the city.

"How many times have you been driving around and seen people drop their window and there goes the bags of different merchandise that they no longer need. That's gotta stop. There's illegal dumping all over the place, we'll have more cameras focused on the right places to make sure we pick up those people who are doing illegal dumping," said commission Willie Gort at news conference announcing the campaign.

So far, 17 people have been charged with illegal dumping. Residents are urged to call 3-1-1 to report it if they see it happening.
