Miami Celebrates British Invasion

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — The British are coming, the British are coming.

No, this is not a flash back to 1175.

This week Miami, known as the "Gateway to Latin America," is honoring culture from across the Atlantic with its second BritWeek.

The Miami-based celebration runs through March 12 and features the theme of 'design and innovation.' British companies operating in South Florida will be on display.

Former British Consul General Bob Peirce and "So You Think You can Dance" executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe founded the nonprofit BritWeek in 2007 in California. Organizers say proceeds will go to a local South Florida charity that has yet to be announced.

The week long activities include conferences on technology, fashion events, a celebration of British film, forums on UK educational opportunities, an architecture showcase and of course, an afternoon tea.
