Miami Beach Will Launch Free Alton/West Loop Trolley
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – The Alton Road construction project, expected to be done in 2015, can be quite the headache for business owners, visitors and residents alike—but Miami Beach is hoping a free trolley service will help.
In an effort to improve access to businesses along Alton Road and West Avenue during Florida Department of Transportation's construction, the City of Miami Beach is launching a trolley transportation service on Monday.
The free trolley will run until the construction project is completed.
The Alton/West Loop trolleys will travel from Fifth Street to Lincoln Road, along Alton Road and West Avenue, with 20 stops along the way. The service will run about every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. until midnight Monday through Sunday.
The trolley has a capacity of 25 passengers, and is equipped with an external bike rack. Also, they will eventually have free WiFi.
The trolley service is accessible from several parking facilities along the way.
Those looking to ride the trolley are encouraged to park the Fifth & Alton Garage, where parking will be free for up to four hours with the use of the trolley voucher. Also, a pilot valet parking service will begin soon on 11 Street between Alton Road and West Avenue at $5.00 for up to three hours and $8.00 for up to six hours.
