Miami Beach Voters Say No To Convention Center Hotel

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) -- It looks like it's back to the drawing board after voters said no to the Miami Beach Convention Center Hotel proposal.
Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine said 54 percent of voters favored the lease but at least 60 percent was needed for approval.
The proposal was less than a thousand votes away from being approved.
In a letter sent by Levine, he said in part, "Over the coming weeks, I will work with my colleagues to ensure that the will of the majority of Miami Beach voters is not silenced and that the progress we've made with our convention center corridor continues."
Meantime, the convention center is undergoing a $600-million renovation and expansion. As part of that, the hotel would have had 800 rooms.
