2 men found dead at Miami-Dade Walgreens parking lot, police say

Two men were shot and killed Friday outside a Walgreens store in northwest Miami-Dade, prompting a mystery-shrouded investigation, authorities said.

The incident unfolded just before 2 a.m., about six hours after the store closed, leaving neighbors reeling from gunfire in an area typically quiet at night.

Neighboring residents express shock and fear

Neighbors Liz and Germal Collins said they are in disbelief after the shootings outside the Walgreens in the area of Northwest 95th Street and 7th Avenue.

The sobering images include two guns recovered at the scene. Liz Collins said she has lived near the Walgreens store for 52 years.

"I am totally shocked. I never heard anything in this area that has happened like that," said Liz Collins.

"I'm scared to walk up here in this area. I don't know if I want to walk up here anymore."

"What is your reaction? I think it is crazy. I never heard anything like this destroying this neighborhood," said Germal Collins.

"I'd like to have some answers, of course," Liz Collins said.

Gunfire detection leads to grim discovery

The Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the Walgreens after a ShotSpotter alert that detects gunfire. They said they found two men on the scene — one in a car and another on the ground. They did not survive.

Marvin Romero said he heard the shots around 2 a.m.

"I heard six shots from the Walgreens parking lot," said Romero. "What did it sound like? Pop, pop, pop."

"There was a person over here and they told me the car showed up and started shooting. It's getting crazy, everybody walking with a gun in public. They can kill anybody."

Evidence collection at shooting scene

Investigators saw at least 22 evidence markers at the scene where deputies processed items from inside a black Chevrolet Tahoe and brought in a K-9 unit as well.

Ongoing probe and community concerns

Family members said they do not want to say anything.

A manager of a nearby store said he has surveillance video, but he is only sharing it with investigators. Meanwhile, people who live nearby are wondering exactly what happened at this Walgreens store in the middle of the night when the parking lot is usually deserted.

The Sheriff's Office said there are no suspects. They said they are not looking for anyone and there is no threat to the public.

CBS News Miami reached out to Walgreens corporate headquarters to see if they had a statement but has not heard back.
