COOPER CITY (CBSMiami) -- Hundreds gathered Saturday to remember the Cooper City missionary who was killed in a terrorist attack in West Africa.

Michael Riddering died when al Qaeda-linked militants opened fire on a hotel and cafe in the capital city of Burkina Faso. He was there doing missionary work.

Jeff Riddering spoke about his brother's life and memory.

"Great son, wonderful brother, husband, father. It's the impact of Mike's life that extends way beyond Burkina Faso," he said.

Michael's wife, Amy Riddering, said she will return to Burkina Faso later this month to continue the couple's work. She hopes her husband's story of faith and sacrifice inspires others to do the same.
