MDPD: Driver Involved In Corrections Officer Shooting Arrested

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police arrested a man they believe was the driver of a car that was involved in the shooting of a Miami-Dade Corrections officer in late August.

Roderick Everett, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday at an apartment on SW 110 Court.

According to police, Everett confessed to the crime.

Jail records show Everett was charged with attempted murder, robbery, tampering with an electronic monitoring device, assault, discharging a firearm in public, and battery among other charges.

Investigators believe Everett was the driver of the car that dropped an armed robber off near the intersection of SW 181st Terrace and SW 108th Avenue.

Police are still searching for the gunman.

Juan Guellmes, a 28-year Corrections Department veteran was washing his car outside his home.
