MCSO: Two People Died After Snorkeling In FL Keys

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It has been a deadly few days in the Florida Keys for snorkelers.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reports two people have died while snorkeling.

The first death happened Thursday when a Pennsylvania woman was in the water off of Marathon.

She was on board the commercial dive vessel operated by Sea Dog Charters out of Burdine's Waterfront.

They were on a trip to Sombrero Light with a group of other snorkelers.

Witnesses said the woman was coughing up blood and taken to shore to meet with paramedics.

A friend said the victim, Lesley Clark, 54, was on medications and had a pacemaker.  An autopsy will be done to determine a cause of death.

Friday, a Texas man who'd been snorkeling off the Dry Tortugas died.

Donald Tinker, 59, and his wife took the ferry to the Dry Tortugas that morning.

She said they went snorkeling off of the beach, but she returned to shore due to problems with her mask. When she returned to the water, she could not find her husband.

Two men found him and tried to perform CPR, but he died at the Lower Keys Medical Center.

His cause of death is also pending with an autopsy underway.
