LOS ANGELES (AP) — Melissa McCarthy and Adam Sandler were among the early winners at the 2015 People's Choice Awards.

McCarthy was honored as favorite comedic movie actress for "Tammy," while Sandler was selected as favorite comedic movie actor for "Blended" at the fan-favorite ceremony.

"I want to thank the fans that go out and buy movie tickets and allow me to do what I do," said McCarthy. "Thanks for the job."

The show kicked off Wednesday night at the Nokia Theatre with "Mom" stars Anna Faris and Allison Janney quipping about their selection as the show's hosts.

"Oh, who are we kidding?" joked Farris. "Neil Patrick Harris was unavailable, and Ellen DeGeneres said she was busy."

Other winners included Iggy Azalea as favorite hip-hop artist, Hunter Hayes as favorite male country artist, Matt Bomer as favorite cable TV actor and Chris Evans as favorite action movie actor.

"I'll say 30, 40 percent of the votes were my mom, but the other 60 percent, it really, really means a lot to me," Evans said. "I'm eternally grateful."

The People's Choice Awards honor stars in television, music and film and are selected through online voting.
