McCarron: Was 'Huge' Canes Fan Growing Up; Mom Didn't Let Me Go

"I was a huge Miami fan -- Hurricanes fan -- growing up,"A.J. McCarron, former Bama QB who's now with the Bengals, said on the Marc Hochman Show with Zach Krantz. "Everybody in my family was Alabama and I was the only one. When I turned 16 and got my first car, I had the U stickers all on the back. My floormats had Miami and The U on it. Everything I had had the U on it.

"Still to this day I watch reruns of that Ohio State National Championship game and that is the worst call I've ever seen in football. They need to investigate -- I don't know if they ever did but they need to keep investigating the referee that threw it. It was 10 seconds after the play. Miami had already took their helmets off and was celebrating and then he threw the flag."

So why didn't McCarron become a Cane?

"That was around the same time they had [Bryan Patta] where he got shot and killed outside of his apartment," he said. "And then they had the fight happening with FIU and it was just one thing after another and my mom was like 'yeah you're not going down there.'"
