Mayor Taps Elections Employee To Be New Supervisor

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Longtime Miami-Dade Elections Department employee Christina White has been selected to take over when current elections supervisor Penelope Townsley retires next year.

White was appointed to the position by Mayor Carlos Gimenez, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald, since Miami-Dade is the only county in the state which does not elect their supervisor.

Gimenez made the decision after he was asked by Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner to come up with a successor ahead of Townsley's May 1, 2016, mandatory retirement. White won't take over until that date but will still be in charge of the department's day-to-day operations, according to Gimenez's office.
