MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami-Dade County Youth Fair is looking for a new home—but it won't be moving to Tropical Park.

In a statement, Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Tropical Park is not an option, calling it "unsuitable" for the Miami-Dade County Fair and Expo.

The mayor said the park hosts multiple events and programs important to the community.

Tamiami Park is the current home of the fair and has been for the past 43-years.

An amendment, approved on November 4, 2014, allows Florida International University to expand into the park—meaning the county must find a new site.

Gimenez's statement also added that his, "administration continues to actively evaluate sites that could accommodate the needs of The Fair, so that it can continue to operate for many years to come at a new home."
