Mattingly: Miami Marlins Job 'Exactly What I Was Looking For'

"I think it's exactly what I was looking for from the standpoint of having a young team with talent that you are able to come in and teach and mold," new Marlins manager Don Mattingly said on Hochman, Crowder and Krantz, "and I feel like you've got a great nucleus to work with."

Did Mattingly have concerns about the historical disconnect between the front office and the manager?

"One of the questions for me, one of the concerns was the exact thing that you're talking about and I wasn't so much concerned about the relationship between myself and Jeffrey and the front office it was more about are we gonna stay with this? That's the one thing, I want to try to create some consistency. I know they've been changing managers a lot. It's not something that I'm in for for that. I want to be able to come to South Florida, build something, and continue to help it grow and so that was definitely one of the questions I had for management."
