Marvez: Uncertain Whether Playoffs Guarantee Security For Joe Philbin

Many assume it's a playoffs-or-bust season for Joe Philbin and the Miami Dolphins, but one national NFL writer doesn't consider it that cut and dry.

"It's a great question," Fox Sports' Alex Marvez said on the Joe Rose Show, "but it's really one that doesn't have an answer and I'll explain why. Let's say the Dolphins come out like gangbusters, right. They're 9-2 to start the year. And then they lose their final five games, then they go in the playoffs and they lose. Well, that's a different 9-7 than the team that's 4-5 at midseason, catches fire, and then makes a run.

"The only thing that really is tangible as far as Joe Philbin this year is the playoffs because the Dolphins haven't been in so darn long. That's all you can say. You can't say 10 wins is the goal and then if the Dolphins end up not making the playoffs at 10 wins, it's tough."
