MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Marlins pitching ace Jose Fernandez has been bitten by the injury bug again.

Fernandez was pulled from his start against the Atlanta Braves on Friday after 76 pitches and flew back to Miami to be evaluated.

Now it's been revealed that the 23-year-old has a right bicep strain that will likely land him on the disabled list.

In all likelihood, Fernandez will be shut down for the remainder of the season.

There is no reason to risk further injury on a Marlins team that is currently tied with the Philadelphia Phillies for the worst record in baseball.

The impressive youngster missed 13 months after having Tommy John Surgery on his right elbow and returned to the Marlins roster last month.

Fernandez has a 20-8 career record to go with his extraordinary 2.26 ERA.  He has averaged 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings over 267 1/3 career innings pitched.
