Marino Joins Miami Dolphins As Special Advisor

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) - Dan Marino has accepted a job with the Miami Dolphins.

The team announced Sunday Marino has been named special advisor.

Marino released a statement Sunday saying, "I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve in this role. I have always considered myself a Dolphin for life and I look forward to supporting the organization anyway I can," Marino added. "Stephen Ross is a passionate guy who is committed to building a first-class, winning organization.  I'm excited about the future of the team and where the organization is headed."

Ross also released a statement saying, "Dan is and will always be an important part of the Miami Dolphins and we are excited to get him involved in a more formal way," said owner Stephen Ross in a statement released Sudnay. "Dan is unquestionably one of the greatest players in NFL history and his enthusiasm and passion for the Dolphins is inspiring to everyone here."

Marino played for the Dolphins 14-years ago and returned to the practice field earlier in the week.

CBS4 news partner, The Miami Herald, reported at that time he was speaking with Dolphins General Manager Dennis Hickey and his role with the team was undefined.

The Dolphins and Marino had discussed a potential job with the organization over the past five months.

Marino had met with Ross back in April but were struggling to come up with job responsibilities that would be good for both sides.

In his 17-year career with the Dolphins, Marino played in 242 games. He holds 31 Dolphins regular season team records and is tied for three others. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame on February 5, 2005 and enshrined on August 7, 2005.
