MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A family is torn apart after their loved one – a young marine with a child of his own – was shot and killed in an armed carjacking.

"A very, very beautiful family," Laura Comme said of her husband, Guillermo. "My husband was taken from us way too soon."

The incident unfolded Sunday while the family was enjoying a house party in Miami Gardens.

Apparently after leaving the party, a young male juvenile attempted to carjack 27-year-old Guillermo Comme, who was driving along with a brother and friend.

Police said the carjacker, who had two guns, jumped into the driver's seat and shot Comme in the head. According to the family, Comme's brother returned fire and hit the carjacker.

"I come from a family that would discourage violence. He was supporting, protecting his loved one. After my husband got shot, he returned fire and hit the suspect four times," said Comme's wife, Laura.

A Miami-Dade rescue helicopter airlifted Comme to the Aventura Hospital where he died.

The accused juvenile carjacker is in the hospital in critical condition.

"I always told him how proud of him and how much I loved him and I told him every single day," Comme's mother, Heidi, said.

The family gathered Monday to remember the young Marine.

"He was a former marine. I can say that in different ways – excellent brother, excellent cousin, excellent every way," his cousin Joel Comme said. "Why? Because he actually focused he goals in his life, he achieved in early age in many ways."
