Margolis Draws Another Democratic Opponent

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) — State Sen. Gwen Margolis has drawn another Democratic challenger as she seeks to return to Tallahassee in a redrawn district.

Jason Pizzo, from North Miami Beach, this week opened a campaign account to run in Senate District 38, becoming the fifth Democrat planning to take on Margolis in the August 30th primary, according to the state Division of Elections website.

Margolis had raised $78,990 and loaned $50,000 to her campaign as of April 30, while spending $56,054, finance records show. Another candidate in the race, state Rep. Daphne Campbell, D-Miami, had raised $25,208 as of April 30 and spent $11,958.

The other candidates in the race are former Rep. Phillip Brutus, D-North Miami, and Anis Blemur and Don Festge, both of North Miami. The race does not include any Republicans.
