Man Who Carjacked SUV At Miami Hotel Sentenced

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — A man who hit seven people when he carjacked a SUV at the J.W. Marriott Marquis Hotel in downtown Miami last year has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

On Wednesday, Alberto Ruiz pleaded guilty to several felonies, including armed carjacking, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.

Surveillance video from the hotel shows Ruiz jumping into the Lexus SUV as it pulled up to the valet stand. As he tried to get away he hit several valets and hotel guests. Four of those hit were taken to the hospital.

Police later found the Lexus abandoned at 643 SW 11th Street.

After a 10-hour search, police found and arrested Ruiz at the Ramona Motel on West Flagler Street.
