Veteran Struck, Killed By Car In Tamarac

TAMARAC (CBSMiami) - A section of West Commercial Boulevard was temporarily closed to traffic Thursday morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed.

The Broward Sheriff's Office said Willie Span, 70, was trying to cross the road just east of Nob Hill Road when he was hit.

The driver, 36-year-old Edith Nance, remained on the scene and waited for police to arrive, officers . Officers with the Sunrise police department assisted with traffic control during the investigation.

Westbound Commercial Boulevard was closed for several hours from 94 Avenue to Nob Hill for that investigation.

Span is a veteran and was walking from the bus stop towards the V.A. Outpatient Clinic.

In the darkness, the driver said she could not see Span because he was dressed in dark-colored clothing.

No word on if charges will be filed against the driver.
