Man Shot By Police After Shooting Security Guard At Party

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Two men are in the hospital after a police involved shooting took place in Fort Lauderdale late Saturday night.

According to authorities, during a social event being held at 516 NW 1st Avenue a man got into an altercation with a uniformed security guard.  The man became angered and pushed the security guard before leaving the event.

A short time later, the man returned with a loaded handgun and fired several shots at the security guard, striking him multiple times. The man then fled the scene on foot.

Officers quickly responded and were directed toward the fleeing suspect by witnesses at the location, according to Fort Lauderdale Police.

Officers pursued the suspect on foot for a couple of blocks, during which time an officer fired his weapon, striking the suspect.

Both the suspect and the victim were transported to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The officer involved in the shooting was not injured.

The suspect has been identified as 26-year-old James Eric McFadden, a resident of Sunrise. He's been changed with one count of pre-meditated attempted murder.

The investigation remains ongoing.
