MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he was pulled from a burning home in North Miami Beach.

"I was expecting more bodies to come out of there," said Daniel Pizzaro, a neighbor.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue received reports of a fire in the home, at NE 11th Avenue and 165th Street, around 2:30 a.m.

When crews arrived on scene, flames were shooting from the roof of the garage.

"I saw the flames shooting out of the garage and it took them a while to be able to get in there because of the boarding up," said Pizzaro.

Firefighters believed the home was vacant because its windows were boarded up. However, when they searched the property as they fought the fire they found a man inside.

"We were told the house was abandoned however firefighters did still conduct a primary search to make sure no one was in the house and during the course of that primary search we came across an adult victim inside," said Captain Eric Baum, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

He was pulled from the home and rushed to Jackson Health North in critical condition.

A neighbor captured video as firefighters pulled the man out of the burning home and gave him CPR.

"By the time they got in the guy was already hanging on the door handle and he looked like he was out already. His skin was red they tried to revive him," Pizzaro said.

He was rushed to Jackson Health North in critical condition.

The victim's identity has not been released.

The cause of fire still under investigation.
