Man Pleads Guilty To Broward, Dade Robberies

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) - A South Florida man who pleaded guilty to a number of armed robberies in Miami-Dade and Broward counties was sentenced to 40 years in federal prison.

Michael Childs, 39, admitted in court to committing the robberies in 2013 and 2014. In at least two robberies, Childs fired shots at either convenience store employees or customers.

Childs and 26-year-old Charles Lovett were prosecuted under the federal Hobbs Act, which includes lengthy prison sentences for armed robberies and other crimes.

Lovett was sentenced to nearly 12 years behind bars.
