MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — One man was killed, his two passengers hurt in a personal watercraft accident near Pace Picnic Island in Miami.

It happened just before 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Officer Lorenzo Veloz said 25-year-old Jorge Rizo had lost control of a WaveRunner he was driving while his girlfriend and another woman were on board. Rizo had been going in circles at a high rate of speed, Veloz says, and hit a channel marker.

Rizo was thrown from the watercraft and hit his head on the channel marker.

All three victims were taken to the hospital, where Rizo died.

Rizo's girlfriend sustained a severe leg injury. The other woman was treated and released.

FWC officials are investigating the crash.
