Man Dies After Swallowing Drugs To Avoid Arrest

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Miami man who thought he could avoid a drug arrest if he swallowed the evidence ended up dead at a Ft. Lauderdale hospital.

Monday night detectives with the Broward County Drug Task Force conducted an undercover drug sting in the 1300 block of Northeast 32 Street in Oakland Park. When the 38-year old man arrived shortly before 10 p.m. to deliver methamphetamine he swallowed the drugs when he noticed detectives moving in to arrest him, according to the sheriff's office.

Oakland Park Fire Rescue took the man to Holy Cross Hospital where the man went into cardiac arrest and died.

The sheriff's office has not released the man's name.
