Man Charged In North Miami Beach Smash & Grab

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A North Miami Beach resident who reportedly went on a one man crime spree last month has been charged.

On Thursday, February 20th, North Miami Beach officers were sent to a shopping plaza in the 13700 block of Biscayne Boulevard after multiple burglar alarms there had been set off.

When they arrived, police found that six stores in the shopping center had been burglarized by someone smashing out the front windows of the stores using a large rock.

In two of the businesses, the owners reported money was taken. Approximately, $100 was taken from a store which sells electronic cigarettes and $5 in coins was taken from the "Razor King Barber Shop." The thief also disconnected the cables to the store's surveillance cameras but not before they captured his image. Video surveillance footage clearly shows the man throwing a rock through the front window. The owner of the shop identified the man as 29-year old Alfredo Rey, a former customer.

Investigators said Rey, a local gang member, was released from prison in December 2013 after being sentenced to four years for committing burglary, grant theft and tampering with a witness. They tracked him down and arrest him on February 28th.

Rey was charged with cocaine possession and multiple counts of criminal mischief, attempted burglary and burglary.
