MARGATE (CBSMiami) -- A man is in the hospital following a fireworks accident a day after July 4th celebrations.

North Lauderdale fire officials said the 20-year old was at his sister's Margate home Tuesday lighting fireworks.

At some point, while he was using one of the fireworks, it blew up, injuring him.

Fire officials said the man lost three fingers in the incident.

The man tried to drive himself to the hospital but one the way spotted a North Lauderdale rescue vehicle so he stopped for help.

From there, rescue crews rushed him to a nearby Broward hospital.

His condition is unknown at this time. It is unclear if his fingers will be able to be reattached.
