Man accused of video voyeurism at Medley business after camera found in bathroom
MIAMI -- A man is accused of placing a surveillance camera inside a woman's bathroom at the business where he worked in Medley.
Police say he not only confessed to the crime but as CBS4 observed, he also confessed again in bond court on Wednesday morning and that surprised the Judge in this case.
On Tuesday, police were called to Ricoma Embroidery at 11555 NW 124th Street about the discovery of the camera by one of the employees at the business.
On surveillance video, 39-year-old Ronny Barbera Quintero, an employee, was seen setting up the small camera underneath the sink and facing the toilet. Video surveillance also showed Barbera Quintero entering the bathroom in question.
Medley Police spokesman Deglys Chavarria told CBS4's Peter D'Oench "The camera was placed underneath the sink between the plumbing and a cover and facing the toilet. He admitted that on Monday he placed the camera in the bathroom. His excuse and there is no excuse for this is that there was a rumor that employees were having relations in the bathroom and he wanted to capture that."
Medley police said after learning that the camera had been found, Barbera Quintero left the business in a hurry.
Barberas Quintero was found driving on US 27 toward the southbound Turnpike entrance ramp. Officers stopped Barbera's Quintero vehicle and took him into custody.
There were four victims that were identified from the video footage. Barbera Quintero has been charged with four counts of video voyeurism.
At an appearance in bond court, Circuit Judge Monday Glazer asked, "So he put a camera in the bathroom?"
And after listening to the question through a translator in court, Quintero answered "Si."
That prompted Judge Glazer to immediately say "Don't comment on the case. You are presumed not guilty and those are allegations."
Judge Glazer had more to say while questioning Quintero about his finances and the car he possessed. Quintero said he drove a $45,000 car.
Glazer said "You don't qualify for a Public Defender because you are driving a $45,000 car. You can hire an attorney."
The Judge sent bond at $12,500 for all of the four counts. And she ordered Quintero to stay away from the 4 victims, meaning he will probably not be allowed to return to work.
"No contact with the alleged victims, either directly or indirectly or in person or by writing or through 3rd parties," she said. "You just stay at least 500 feet away from the victims and their homes and their place of business."
D'Oench went inside Ricoma Embroidery to see if anyone would be willing to say anything but a spokesman told him there would be no comment.
Chavarria said Medley Police are trying to see if there are any more victims.
