MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Elton Bandoo, the man accused of shooting a North Miami Beach police officer, appeared in court Wednesday hoping a judge will allow him to post a bond.

During the hearing, North Miami Beach lead detective Joseph Romero testified that as officers tried to serve a federal warrant, Bandoo came out of his house and fired his gun three times.

Two of those bullets struck Officer Lino Diaz. Bandoo has been in jail since the February 6th incident which occurred in the area of Northeast 160th Street and 8th Avenue.

Prosecutors pulled out a tape measure to show Bandoo was standing 29-feet away from the officer when he fired the shots.

Bandoo's attorney said he believed his family was being robbed when he shot the officer.

The hearing is expected to conclude Thursday.
