WESTCHESTER (CBSMiami) – A man accused of shooting his estranged wife in a Westchester shopping center parking lot then turning the gun on himself has died.

Miami-Dade Police said 44-year old Rafael Baster Sanchez died just before 7:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Officers said Sanchez  had met with his estranged wife, Lourdes Martinez-Rodriguez, 43, on Tuesday evening at the shopping center at 8679 SW 24 Street. They were supposed to exchange some property when an argument escalated.

Rodriguez's 15-year-old daughter was at the scene of the shooting, according to police.  It is not clear if Sanchez was the girl's father because the girl's vital records are still in Cuba.

On Wednesday, the teen sat in court for a shelter hearing to decide where she should go.

Family friends stepped forward to take care for the teen since there were no other family members present who could care for the girl.
