FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Evidence gathered at scene led Broward Sheriff's investigators to a man they suspect shot at a deputy on I-95 last month.

On August 25th, Deputy Elisa Galindez was on her way home from work just after 6 a.m. when a man got out of a car parked on the I-95 ramp at Southern Boulevard and shot at her.

Bullet cartridges led investigators to 34-year old Laronn Shelton who was already in the Palm Beach County jail, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Two days after the shooting he was arrested by Delray Beach police on drug and weapons charges.

During questioning, Shelton admitted that he had a gun and shot at the deputy, according to West Palm Beach police. He reportedly told detectives that the deputy had shot at him first.

Shelton faces a number of charges including attempted first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
